Speaking and talking

I don’t know if it is just me, but I find it quite irritating when discussing something with someone, or when watching TV, that that person constantly insists on repeating tired old jokes again and again.  A few jokes now and again are fine, yet when discussing a serious topic I would expect the person to at least attempt the decency of trying to converse.

Is it so much to wish my personal relationships would help me speak to something deeper than simply recognizing that someone who speaks has an accent, or that you can construe what the person says to be some sort of innuendo?  Perhaps this speaks about this person’s intelligence, recognizing that these people do not know when to be appropriate and when comedy will be appreciated.
